I’m so happy to share some of my favorites from Julia and Andy’s engagement session. When they told me they were interested in having their engagement session at a brewery, I was in full support since I had never photographed in a brewery before and I thought it would be an amazing opportunity. When they said that Gateaway Brewing Co had a greenhouse seating area, I became even more excited (and with good reason! look at the gorgeous lighting).
I loved learning about their perfectly imperfect relationship – all of the quirky moments that make it uniquely theirs. Like their first date when Julia made tacos and went out of her way to ensure she provided every topping imaginable, only to have Andy make a meat and cheese taco. Andy did not even realize how slighted this made Julia feel until many weeks later when Andy ordered a meat and cheese taco while visiting Local Cantina. Ever since, Julia has continued to encourage Andy to try new things (including food!) and adventure has become a huge part of their lives.
For the proposal, Andy had thoughtfully planned the whole thing out. He hired a photographer and coordinated with a friend to sneakily bring Julia to the location where he wanted to propose. There were a few hiccups where their photographer ghosted them and the friend couldn’t take off work, but with a few last minute scrambling it all came together. Julia was suspicious that something fishy was going on, so when she saw Andy at the Columbus Park of Roses, she shouted “I knew it!” – and the normally well planned and thought out Andy, who had decided to to speak from the heart in the heat of the moment, was speechless. All he could muster was “Wanna marry me?”
The theme of perfectly imperfect continues throughout their entire love story. I imagine there will be a few of these moments that I’ll get to experience first hand at their wedding
